I was having lunch the other day at subway and a Det Free Press was on the table. It's old school social media and it was full of all kinds of information. It was kind of nice to sit and read an actual newspaper. It felt nice to hold the paper in my hands... feeling its texture... seeing the ink rub off on your fingers... hear the rustle of the pages as I turned the pages... it was something to SMILE about.

The Shortest Day of the Year
Well... for one... it's the shortest day... for if your having a bad day... at least it would be a short bad day. Another... if you string a bunch of short days together... it makes for a longer day... and that's worth SMILING at.
Where I live in mid-Michigan today is often cloudy... cold... and just dismal. There isn't usually reason to SMILE... but today was different. For one... at church we got to here about how Mary the mother of Jesus was blessed to be an example of faith for us. She trusted that God would some how provide when there was reason to doubt how having a child could come about with out being with a husband. Mary trusted... that's worth SMILING for.
Another... was the children at the church had their Christmas program. It was nice to see little children share the Christmas story in words and song. The innocence of young life oblivious to the out of tune their young voices were... and yet... their voices were melodies as they chimed together. That's worth a SMILE.
While the days we live seem to be dreary and grey... as I left the church for the way home the sun came out for a short time. Being the shortest day of the year seeing the sun was a blessing. You see... the sun had been missing for the better part of 10 days and so the warm rays for those few moments brought a SMILE from my face.
The celebration of the Winter Solstice may bring SMILES to some... but for many the SMILES start tomorrow as the days begin to get longer. While you won't notice much of a change for a couple of weeks... change will happen... the days will get longer... life moves forward... and that is the best of the shortest day of the year. And that's the greatest reason to SMILE on the shortest day of the year.
SMILE ON...

Alleluia Amen... the sun is out.
I never thought I would be so excited to see the bright ball in the sky... but I am. It has been more than a week since I last saw it... well it feels like it.
Anyway... it's time for a GREAT BIG SMILE. ..

Santa SMILE
You gotta SMILE at this... although I'm not a big fan of the Christmas season. ... too much stuff. ..too much money. .. not enough Christ. .. not enough family.
But while we were on our annual Christmas tradition in Frankenmuth look who I ran into... and had to get a selfie with the big guy.
So for me... It was a reason to SMILE .....

Christmas SMILE
I'm on our annual family tradition to the world's largest Christmas store... can you guess where? It's suppose to put a SMILE on your face... and I suppose it does... well a little one.
While it's not very busy tonite... I'm people watching snd that does bring me SMILES. Watching how people meticulously look at each piece is fascinating. Anyway. ..
